Do you have to pay for orthotics?

Last Updated: November 22, 2024

In Ontario, the provincial health plan (OHIP) does not provide coverage for orthotics, braces and other orthopedic support devices. All custom orthotics fees must be paid for. Most workplace health insurance benefits plans, however, do provide partial or full reimbursement for custom foot orthotics – provided all the required documents requested by your insurance company are submitted. These are usually listed in your insurance handbook or app. Most commonly they require:

  1. Prescription referral with diagnosis (from chiropodist/podiatrist/physician)
  2. Orthotics manufacturing information including casting method
  3. Receipt of payment
  4. Proof of Manufacture

Our customer service team can contact participating insurers to answer any questions regarding your coverage. Simply book your Custom Orthotics appointment at emkiro.ca or call us at 416-977-7474.

Payment for Orthotics

The following fees are charged by your licensed orthotics provider (i.e. chiropodist) who will also arrange for your documentation:

  1. Biomechanical Examination: $90
  2. Custom Orthotics: $500

Payment is rendered at the time of service/order. Most insurers provide coverage/reimbursement for the above fees. Note: All fees are the responsibility of the client, not the third party insurer regardless of coverage. Know your coverage. We are here to help.
